Angola geo-educational programme
As part of our commitment to help develop the countries and communities in which we do business, IGE successfully ran a 3-5 year educational and technical professional development program between 2007 and 2009.. The program was set up for selected technical staff of the Angolan state-owned mining company Endiama E.P and was executed on IGE’s behalf by the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU).
The development programme comprised three phases: 1) lectures and training sessions in Luanda,.2) airborne geophysics; and 3) a six weeks lecture and training sessions in Uppsala, Sweden.
Participants also enjoyed a number of visits to various institutions within the mining sector, including mines in operation. Interpretation of geophysical and geological data as well as field work was also important parts of the program. A group of counterparts from Endiama E.P. and Endiama P.P. were directly involved in the IGE exploration activities in the Lunda Norte and Moxico provinces.
Our main aim was to provide insight in modern exploration techniques, especially in the application of state of the art computer software to Angolan mining professionals. As well as offering the opportunity to get acquainted with the organisation of the mineral sector in Sweden and Finland, both from a technical as well as from a legal point of view.
Our program was much appreciated and the education has been put into good use by the Angolan participants. IGE was encouraged by the positive results and intend to contribute to similar undertakings in the future.
